So Ticat kicker/punter has signed with the Carolina Panthers. Not great news for the Cats, as Medlock's kicking last year was a big improvement over the kicking of Sandro DeAngelis the year before. Medlock was good for long distance kicks which was certainly useful for the Cats, although the team still ended up 8 and 10 during the regular season.
My prediction, the Cats will miss Medlock in some games, but still have a lot better record. Medlock's punting compared to his kicking was kind of meh.

Longest CFL Field Goal, Longest Ticat CFL Field Goal
After Justin Medlock booted a 57 yard field goal in Montreal on Sunday to tie the Ticat record (also apparently held by Bernie Ruoff and Paul Osbaldiston according to this article) for longest field goal and Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski kicked a 63 yard field goal to tie the NFL record for longest field goal at Denver's Mile High Stadium (which has a sponsor, but since I get no revenue I'm not naming them) I was curious about the CFL records. Current BC kicker Paul McCallum had a 62 yard field goal for Saskatchewan against Edmonton on October 27, 2001 for 62 yards. Three kickers have kicked 67 yard field goals in the NCAA, I'm not sure of the CIS record, but I should look it up.

Ticat Justin Medlock Wins CFL Special Teams Player of the Week
Ticats kicker and punter Justin Medlock won the CFL's special team's player of the week after the Cats 33 to 3 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, going four for four on field goals. Bye bye Sandro DeAngelis, go finish renovating your house.
Former non-import defensive tackle, Jermaine Reid won the best Canadian award with four tackles and a sack. I guess the Cats thought that Eddie Steele could fill the roll of starting non-import defensive tackle for a lot cheaper and so far he has.
Winning by 30 points and only giving up 3 could often warrant two awards, but not this week. Are the Ticats historically underrepresented in the CFL Player of the Week awards? Something worth analyzing.

Ticats Trade for Justin Medlock
I'm a little surprised the Cats trade for import kicker/punter Justin Medlock. Sure the Cats get some defensive back named Carlos Thomas, and a negotiation list player and draft picks are swapped, but mainly the deal must be about Medlock. Obviously the Cats were unhappy with kicker Sandro DeAngelis' play last year, especially in Ivor Wynne, but after a year getting used to Ivor Wynne, Sandro should be better this year.
Annoying news out of Ottawa. The team might not be ready for the 2013 season.
