Hamilton Tiger-Cats Cheerleaders Pre Moncton Game

Here's the Tiger-Cats cheerleaders going to get changed before the game. They had been out and about hawking their playing cards. Oddly I've seen no sign if the Montreal Alouettes cheerleader. Maybe the Alouettes cheaped out and didn't bring them. Shame.

Here's a photo of the Ticats junior cheerleaders, standing beside the endzone. I felt a bit like a Vladimir Nabokov character, but a decent shot nonetheless.

Ticats at Argos, Meaningless Pre-Season Game

I was at the sparsely attended game at Dead Ted's Dome (aka the Roger Centre) and frankly I didn't learn very much. Quinton Porter looked like Quinton Porter, not too many passes and a lot of running, but not always for first downs. Boltus looked OK, although what would happen if he actually got tossed into a regular season game against regulars is a mystery to me.

I've learned that pre-season games don't mean much, especially the first one. In fact as a I recall the Ticats won both pre-season games during their 3 and 15 seasons, so I think there may actually be a negative correlation between pre-season wins and regular season wins.

The defence seemed pretty mediocre, especially in passing situations. I didn't notice much of a push and the Argo quarterbacks seemed relatively unhurried and had ample time to find receivers. Stevie Baggs didn't play any downs from what I could see, so that's obviously a big difference, but doesn't say much for depth.

Potential running back Milner was decent, rushing and catching passes which is pretty much a necessity to be a successful back in the CFL these days.

Justin Medlock looked good both kicking and punting. I don't think we will miss DeAngelis. Paraphrasing my seatmate, maybe he didn't have to renovate his house.

The Argos looked good, but then they started last year's starter Cleo "the Party" Lemon and left him in for a while, which is a bit unusual for a team's first pre-season game. Lemon is definitely better than he was at the start of last season and if playing on a team with a good defence could be somewhat effective. Dalton Bell didn't look bad either and the Argos as a whole appeared to actually have some receivers, which they didn't last year.

The Argo cheerleaders made me laugh when they switched from skimpy uniforms to skimpier uniforms, pictured above, about midway through the game. Cheerleaders need practice too I guess.

Here's a photo I snapped of the 2010 Hamilton Ticat cheerleaders at the season tickets pickup party (unlike last year, the tickets were actually in the envelope). The full version is massive, so maybe I'll get some page views. I forgot my camera at the opener, which is the only game I have managed to make this year, but I'll be at the next home game, hopefully camera in hand.

I attended the Ticat game in Argoville a week and a half ago. The Rogers Centre (or Dead Ted's Dome as I prefer) is a pretty mediocre place to watch a football game, especially when you compare the sightlines to Ivor Wynne. We were on the second level and while the view wasn't terrible, it wasn't great either. Hard to see the Jumbotron as well. Of course the Cats pretty much stank up the joint until tying the game in exciting fashion in the last minute and then proceeded to suck in overtime and lose to, uh, Cody Pickett.

A number of games ago, the Ticats cheerleaders had their retro uniforms and for this game the Argohos had theirs. If I go back to Toronto for the next Ticat game in October, I need to get a better camera.

Jeremy Piven, Honourary Argo?

Entourage star Jeremy Piven apparently became an honourary Argo, while promoting his latest film, the Goods: Sell Hard, Live Hard, which sounds like an updated version of Used Cars. The Star photo has a picture of the Argos cheerleaders surrounding Piven, but I don't see the infamous Nissan Cube anywhere in the background.

Nissan Has Less Love for Ticats Cheerleaders?

I have been meaning to post this link for a while, but haven't gotten around to it. Anyways, the Mississauga News (surely an august publication) is reporting on Nissan expanding their sponsorship of the CFL, which is great. Apparently they are giving boxy Nissan Cubes to five teams, the Argos, the Smos, the Stampeders, the Riders and the Bombers, so the teams' cheerleaders can toot around to various events and promote Nissan at the games. Fantastic, however why the lack of love for Hamilton's cheerleaders? Wouldn't they do a fine job of promoting weird effeminate angular econovan things at various Hamilton area events? I know at the stadium the team mentions Nissan occasionally as a national sponsor, versus Subaru which seems to be the car of the Cats from all the ads they do during the game. Subaru is more of an upscale car and they do have four wheel drive to help traverse the dangerous flood prone roads of the Hammer, so maybe it works out in the end.

Also, perusing the Missisauga News top story, this one caught my eye about a pregnant woman stabbing her husband. Stay classy Mississauga.
