2015 Week One CFL Television Ratings

Chris Zelkovich has the Canadian weekend sports television ratings here. Of the three weekend games, the Bombers at the Roughriders were top at 780,000, with the Eskimos at Argos at 498,000. The Friday night Ticats at Stampeders game was lowest at 455,000 which is a bit disappointing considering how good the game was. Those are pretty low ratings, although there was a lot of competition in the first week. The Blue Jays are still in the playoff mix for once, which makes a big difference. No idea what the ESPN television ratings for the CFL are for week one, but I'll look for it.

CFL Week 16 Television Ratings

Chris Zelkowich has the Canadian weekend sports television ratings out for last weekend here.

The CFL had a decent weekend, placing fifth, sixth, seventh and thirteenth with considerable hockey and NFL competition. Both the NFL and NHL benefits from being broadcast over the air versus CFL viewers only able to view if they have cable and TSN.

5. CFL, Bombers at Eskimos, Monday, TSN: 843,000
6. CFL, Roughriders at Alouettes, Monday, TSN: 782,000
7. CFL, Ticats at Argonauts, Friday, TSN: 636,000
13. CFL, RedBlacks at Lions, Saturday, TSN: 424,000

It is a little disappointing that the Ticats and Argos didn't draw better considering the ending, but I noticed while attending the game that some Argos fans left early so maybe some viewers did too, as it looked dire for the Argos for a while.

The BC Ottawa game was a little disappointing, although with Ottawa way out of the playoffs and the game a blowout, not particularly surprising. Zelkovich does point out that the Senators didn't draw a lot of fans:

"But Ottawa-Tampa Bay on Sportsnet One attracted only 112,000 and the Washington-Boston game on FX was watched by a paltry 15,000. Even Toronto FC outdid that (55,000 on TSN.)"

TFC has continued their week ratings. How MLSE expects to make a profit on the team with massive transfer signing bills and no television revenues is a mystery.

The Bombers and Eskimos managed the highest CFL ratings on Thanksgiving even though it was blowout.

2014 CFL Television Ratings Week 6

Chris Zelkowich has the Canadian weekend sports television ratings over at his Yahoo blog. Unusually this summer the Jays games held down the first, second and fourth spots, with the CFL games in the third, fifth and sixth spots:

1. MLB, Blue Jays at Astros, Friday, Sportsnet: 832,000
3. CFL, Lions at Stampeders, Friday, TSN: 656,000
5. CFL, Roughriders at RedBlacks, Saturday, TSN: 516,000
6. CFL, Argonauts at Alouettes, Friday, TSN: 514,000

Low ratings for the CFL this week compared to previous weeks and significantly lower than last year's average (around 700K). Surprising that the Riders game was so low. The East totally sucking this year can't help

TSN Will Broadcast Six Pre-Season Games in 2014

After having less games last year (two I think), TSN and TSN2 will broadcast six pre-season games out of a total of nine pre-season games. Unsurprisingly TSN2 will broadcast the Ottawa home game in Saskatchewan against Saskatchewan. More surprisingly TSN isn't broadcasting the other Rider game which seems a bit stupid from a rating standpoint.

Ottawa gets two games, Calgary gets two games and the Bombers get two games. Hamilton? Nada. Fuck you TSN.

Maybe logistics at Mac for the Ticat home game would have made it difficult, but why not the road game? At least the Cable 14 sports staff will have something to do for two games this year.

TSN has four games and TSN2 has two. Hopefully as few games as possible will have Rod Black, but that's unfortunately doubtful.
